The Nurse Practitioners

Susan Jones BSc (Hons) Nurse Practitioner (University of Wales, Swansea), RMN, RGN, Asthma Diploma, Independent Prescribing.
Sue is a registered nurse in General & Mental Health Nursing and has worked as a Nurse Practitioner for many years. Sue's background is in A&E, and she has a special interest in Respiratory Health, Women's Health and Mental Health and is fully qualified to prescribe medication.


Emma Harford BSc (Hons) 2002 (University of Wales, Swansea), RGN, Nursing Studies Diploma, Independent Prescribing.
Emma is a registered nurse in General Nursing and has worked as a Nurse Practitioner for many years. Emma's background is varied including A&E, acute respiratory and general medicine, medical & ortho rehab and unscheduled care in the community.  Emma is fully qualified to prescribe medication.


The role of the Nurse Practitioner is modelled on the American system, which has been in operation since the 1960s. In order to provide complete health care, Nurse Practitioners will:
•  diagnose and treat health problems, obtaining a medical history and using physical examination as appropriate.
•  diagnose, treat and monitor chronic health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma.
•  promote positive health behaviours and self-care skills through education and counselling.
•  collaborate with the general practitioner and other health professionals, investigate and refer as appropriate.
•  recommend management including drug therapy.
