Antenatal Clinic
Tuesday pm each week.
Appointment via reception.
This clinic is run by midwives and monitors the progress of each patient’s pregnancy. One of our health visitors will contact you following the birth of your child.
Well Baby Clinic
Tuesday each week - appointment via reception or by invitation.
This clinic is run by a practice doctor and health visitors. It provides regular monitoring, examinations and immunisations for children eight weeks to five years of age.
Health Visitors Clinic
Monday each week - appointment via reception or invitation sent by our health visitors.
This clinic is run by the health visitors and provides hearing tests, 18 month development checks, three year assessments and general advice.
Family Planning Clinic
Appointment via reception.
This clinic, run by a nurse, gives advice on planning a family or preventing pregnancy by:
• helping you to choose the most suitable method of contraception - free condoms supplied subject to availability.
• providing routine ‘pill checks’.
• offering pre-pregnancy counselling with particular reference to those patients with conditions, eg diabetes, that may affect pregnancy.
Respiratory Clinic
Appointment via reception.
This clinic is run by a nurse specialising in the care of patients diagnosed with asthma, COPD any other chronic respiratory conditions and includes routine annual/medication reviews.
Diabetic Clinic
Appointment via reception.
This clinic is run by a doctor and nurse specialising in the care of patients diagnosed with diabetes.
Podiatry Clinic
Referral to this foot care clinic held at Bridge Street Health Centre is via a doctor or nurse and is available to diabetic patients only.
Healthy Heart Clinic
This clinic is run by a nurse specialising in the care of patients with conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension), angina and previous heart attack and includes routine annual/medication reviews.
Travel Clinic
Friday afternoons by appointment.
Our nurse led travel clinic will provide you with all the information you need to remain healthy during your trip abroad. Immunisations will be offerred as applicable to your destination (some charges may apply) and we can also arrange malaria prophylaxis if required. Please make an appointment as early as possible before your trip in case immunisations are required aas often several weeks are required to become effective.
Dietetic Clinic
The Health Board has carried out a formal evaluation of the Dietetic service which is currently only provided to two practices in the whole of the Cwm Taf area. In order to ensure that all the patients in Cwm Taf are able to access an equal level of service the decision has been made to end the current arrangements, and to reinvest the funds in the specialist dietetic services at the Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles Hospitals.
Appointment via a doctor or nurse practitioner. This clinic is provided by Mr Dean Locking and Associates, Physiotherapy Wales and offers short-term treatment and advice for minor muscular problems.
Mental Health
Thursday each week - appointments via a doctor or nurse practitioner.
This assessment clinic is run by a community psychiatric nurse.
Minor Surgery
Appointment via a doctor or nurse practitioner.
This clinic is for minor surgical procedures.
INR (Warfarin) Clinic
Wednesday each week - appointments via reception.
Run by a pharmacist from The Royal Glamorgan Hospital, this clinic monitors patients on anti-coagulant medication eg Warfarin. A blood test is carried out during the consultation and the result is immediately available. Those patients who for medical reasons cannot attend the surgery will be visited by a member of our district nurse team.
Epilepsy
This clinic is run by Dr Jawad, a visiting consultant specialising in the treatment and control of epilepsy.
As the clinic is provided by a visiting consultant it is subject to change/withdrawal without notice.

Patient Care Programmes
Appointments may be made to attend any of the following programmes during normal surgery hours. These services are principally delivered by practice nurses or health care practitioners as appropriate.
Postnatal Checks provided by our nurses - appointments via reception.
Smears Three-yearly checks for which qualifying women will receive a reminder letter from the Welsh Cytology Service. Advice is also given on breast self-examination techniques.
Hypertension Monitoring Treatment and lifestyle advice for those diagnosed with hypertension to maintain/improve their general health.
Holiday Vaccinations Advice and immunisations given specific to the country to be visited. For such vaccinations to be effective they need to be given at least two weeks before travelling.
Adult Immunisation
Tetanus - we advise repeat vaccination at least every 10 years up to a maximum of five doses in a lifetime. This is particularly important for those working in an environment carrying an increased risk of infection.
Hep B - vaccination should be obtained by those working with blood or blood products eg doctors, nurses, carers, ambulance/police/fire personnel.
Hep A - vaccination should be obtained by those who frequently travel abroad visiting areas where there is a higher risk of contracting hepatitis (if in doubt please contact one of our practice nurses).
Flu - vaccinations are provided during the autumn/winter for ‘at risk’ patients eg those who have heart or respiratory disease, asthma, diabetes and/or aged 65 years or over. Please enquire at reception if you have some other condition that you feel may place you in the ‘at risk’ category.
Pneumonia - a once only vaccination for protection against some forms of pneumonia. Recommended for those patients listed under ‘Flu’ above.
Meningitis - a programme of immunisation for young adults against the Meningococcal C strain. Details from reception.
Over 75 Checks
Patients aged 75 years and over who have not attended a consultation nor attended a clinic at the surgery within the last 12 months may request a health check/review via reception.
Three Year Health Checks
Patients aged 16-74 years who have not attended a consultation nor attended a clinic at the surgery within a three year period may request a health check via reception.
